Introduction

This is a blog on an Assessment Instrument in regards to a subject called 'Professional Skills'. It is an individual response where I will be analysing my Professional Skills by using a range of different literatures that I have learnt throughout the years of my study at Central Queensland University. This assessment piece will also come in handy for when I commence full time work as a Learning Manager (Teacher) in the near future.

This assessment will include the development of complex work to identify and evidence the Professional Skills that I have developed in regards to contemporary literature.

In this case, the scenario that has been assigned to me by my lecturer is:

You are just about to complete your CQUniversity studies and you are Seeking Employment.

Introduction - My Life's Journey So Far

On the 4th of September 1989, David and Mary Quilty gave birth to their first born son, Aaron. Both David and Mary were heavily involved with Church ministry and sports and this is the journey that I, Aaron Quilty have been travelling on the past 21 years.

From the day I was born I was brought up with a basketball in my hand and would always sit on my fathers lap watching the basketball or the football or whatever sport that was on television back in the early 90's. To this day I still love my sport. I started playing basketball when I was four and I have had the chance to play state wide representing North and Central Queensland. I have played almost every sport at a competitive level including soccer, Bicycle Motor Cross (BMX), Tennis, Athletics and even football. Before moving to Mackay I was age Champion in Athletics five years running and in 2001 I was named Sportsman of the year.

I am also musically inclined having the opportunity to sing in choirs and playing piano since the age of five. As the years have gone by I have been taught the Clarinet and have had professional vocal lessons. As I have Christian Parents and have been brought up in a Christian family I have had the opportunity to Worship lead (Lead Sing) in my Youth Ministry since the age of fifteen and have been Worship Leading in my local church since the age of Seventeen). When I stated university I decided that I was also going to teach myself how to play the Guitar. Two years later I am now classed as a Singer/Songwriter doing my own Ministry in a range of different places throughout Queensland and have recently had the chance to Worship Lead for Youth Alive Queensland.

My parents are Pastors and are also Missionaries. Therefore I have had the chance to experience things that not many people have experienced before. I went on my first Missions trip when I was six years old and ever since then I have been to twenty different countries throughout the world. When I was ten years old we spent four months travelling around the world. When we were in Mozambique in Africa I caught a heart for the people there and ever since then I have always wanted to become a teacher so I could go over to Africa and make a difference, especially in regards to Child Soldiers.

At Present I am working at Townview State School in Mount Isa as a Teacher Aide. I have been so fortunate enough to be able to work at Townview for that is where I have done my placement previously. I have learnt so much as a Teacher Aide than I have over the period studying as a Learning Manager. However, my time at CQUniversity has set me up so well that I am able to achieve much more now than I have ever been able too. I was the first student in the Mackay campus to go out Rural for my placement. Working with Indigenous students and students from a range of different backgrounds than that of those from Mackay, was a total eye opener for me.

As you can tell I am a very passionate, very outgoing, very caring type of person and if I had to sum up all my goals in life and put it as one statement I believe that it would be, "To Be the Difference"
